Favourite Reads Of The Year So Far

Wow, I can’t believe it’s the end of June already! I’ve spent a lot of time reading this year as I’ve been out of school, but I’m also trying to get ahead on my reading goal before I start university this fall. So far I’ve read 27 books of my goal of 50 so I’m very proud of myself!

I’ve read some pretty amazing books so far this year, and it’s been very hard trying to choose the best ones! Yes, I’m including whole series as single spots on the list. There was no other way. Don’t even question it.

Without further ado, my favourites of the year so far (in no particular order):

A Court of Wings and Ruin – Sarah J. Maas

Okay, I know I said no particular order, but that doesn’t include this one. This one is my absolute number one. It was incredible and left me a wreck for a long time afterwards. Actually I’m still a wreck because of it. Almost 2 months later. Do you see how good it was? And I’m a wreck for good reasons!

Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom – Leigh Bardugo

This duology definitely lives up to its hype! Both books were completely action packed from start to finish, and I was constantly shocked at how clever and intricate the group’s plans were! I loved getting to know these characters and I really hope Leigh Bardugo decides to write more about them in the future.

The Nightingale – Kristin Hannah

This is such a beautiful novel and I recommend it to any lovers of historical fiction! It may not have been as poetically written as some of the others I’ve read, but it didn’t need to be! The storyline and the strength and growth of the characters was more than enough, and the events that occurred will stay with me for a long time.

The Bone Season, The Mime Order & The Song Rising – Samantha Shannon

This is an amazing debut series by Samantha Shannon, and it keeps getting better with every book! It has such a unique storyline, following clairvoyants and creatures from another realm. The main character, Paige, quickly rose to be one of my favourite females for her strong, sassy, and independent nature. I absolutely can’t wait for the next one!

The Red Tent – Anita Diamant

Another amazing historical fiction novel, The Red Tent is an interpretation of the life of Dinah, daughter of Jacob, whose story is briefly mentioned in the bible. Anita Diamant gives voice to her character as well as the other women in her society during that time period. I loved it so much and will definitely be reading it again one day.

 

Caraval – Stephanie Garber

Caraval is Stephanie Garber’s debut novel, and WOW I am impressed! It has such a magical setting and interesting characters. The plot twists are INSANE and totally boggled my mind! I was swept away just as much as Scarlett was!
